The European Committee of the Joint Committee of the European Association of Establishments for Veterinary Education (EAEVE) and the Federation of Veterinarians of Europe (FVE) has awarded the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the University of Las Palmas and the de Gran Canaria a positive European assessment.

This decision was taken in a session of ECOVE (Joint Education Committee of the EAEVE and FVE) held in Vienna, and further to interviews with the Dean and Vice-Dean for Academic Affairs of the Faculty, Jorge Orós and Juan Alberto Corbera, respectively.

Last January, a team of specialist European veterinary scientists had visited the Faculty to check that the Faculty complied with European quality teaching standards for veterinary science. They did not detect any category I deficiencies, which are the ones that prevent a centre from receiving a positive assessment.

To date, only some 50% of the 95 European Faculties of Veterinary Science have passed this assessment process. Spanish Faculties of Veterinary Science also reflect approximately the same percentage.

This approval is valid for 10 years for each Faculty, and is therefore valid in this case until 2019, and the Faculty of Veterinary Science of the ULPGC will then have to be assessed once again. This is a process of continuous assessment aimed at achieving high quality standards. The Faculty should bear in mind the suggestions and comments that the ECOVE made in Vienna to ensure that it is well-positioned in 2019 to guarantee a further approval.
